Homebirth FAQ
*Do you take medicaid? Yes
*Will insurance pay for a homebirth? Find out if your insurance plan covers out-of-plan or out-of-network providers. If so, then your insurance should cover Hummingbird Midwifery services and homebirth.
*Is it really safe to have a homebirth? The safety of homebirth is one of the best-kept secrets in this country. Healthy women, attended by experienced midwives, actually have better outcomes birthing at home then similar women birthing in hospitals.
*What about the pain of labor? Our bodies are beautifully designed to give birth, with the release of endorphins and other hormones that help us open to the process of birth. This natural process works best when we create the most positive atmosphere possible, and surround the mother with confident, loving support.
*What if complications did occur? The level of technology available at a homebirth is very similar to that available at a small, rural hospital. The licensed midwives of Hummingbird Midwifery all carry oxygen, infant resuscitation equipment, drugs for stopping hemorrhage, IV fluids, and equipment for suturing.
*Why do you attend homebirths? It's so important to offer women an alternative! Our current medical system is focused on illness & based on profit. Birth is not an illness & treating it like one does not improve outcomes. The US has some of the worst birth statistics in the industrialied world- ranking 28th in infant mortality & 21st in maternal mortality. At Hummingbird Midwifery, we offer women an alternative kind of care that's focused on wellness & based on mutual support, that truly promotes the health of mothers & babies, & has a proven track record of excellent outcomes. |
